Felton Road Block 5 Pinot Noir 2015
Very deep, dense, plummy-crimson colour.
The aroma is intensely concentrated, showing gloriously ripe, spicy fruit with notes of coffee, fresh leather and quality oak. Still very youthful wine but already it exhibits impressive complexity.
The palate too shows this medium-bodied wine’s youth but there is wonderful concentration, depth and complexity of flavour. Although richly textured in the mouth, it is still tightly bound by its powerful yet ripe, supple tannins. The balance too is impressive and seamless; this is a wine with both strength and poise – a trait of the finest Pinot Noir – and a finish that persists long beyond expectation.
Although this is an extraordinary glass of wine, it is as yet, so youthful and so packed with the promise of things to come, I’m almost disappointed to have tried it so early in its life. If you have this at home, hang on to it until 2020 at least, when I think some of the magic this wine promises may be beginning to flower.
